Residents of Hayesend House on the Hazelhurst Estate, just around the corner from the Magdalen Estate, have taken to protesting about the state of their council-owned accommodation by hanging banners outside of their windows.
Many residents of the flats in question have expressed fears for the health of their young children, who are growing up and living in unhygienic conditions, and breathing in contaminated air. It has been said the damp and mould in the properties has been ignored by Wandsworth Council for over twenty years.
A Council spokesman told the Wandsworth Guardian that the problem was only confined to a small number of flats, and that the issues had been aggravated by poor use of heating and ventilation, rather than neglect of the building upkeep. Steps are now being taken to survey the problem, and either carry out remedial works, or simply advise tenants on how to help keep the damp at bay.
If you have anything to say about this, or indeed any other issue that affects other Wandsworth and Magdalen Estate residents, please do get in touch and we’ll gladly be on hand to listen to your views.Google+
