If there’s one thing that most of us Londoners are guilty of (including some of the Magdalen Estate team), it’s that we never take the time and make the small effort of getting our hands on a packet of biscuits, maybe even a box of chocolates, and heading round to see our neighbours, for a good old getting-to-know-you natter. Every summer, The Big Lunch takes place, a idea that has stemmed from the idea of getting people who live locally to each other to talk and spend time enjoying lovely food as a community, thus strengthening the bonds and building more secure areas and streets to live in. Last year’s Big Lunch, which took place on 18th July, was a huge success, with thousands of Streets, Lanes, Roads and Closes across the UK registering to take part, and take the plunge in making new friends. And did it pay off? Our friend James, who participated in a Lunch in Merseyside, said of the day “It was great to have a safe environment in which to meet and chat…it’s a great way to get over the nerves, and you realise just how nice everyone on your street really is!”.
If you’re thinking of registering your Magdalen Estate area for the 2011 Lunch, scheduled for 5th June, why not let us know- share some of your plans with us, and tell us what you’ll be munching on. We look forward to hearing from you!Google+
