Students and staff at a local school have joined forces to help raise awareness of and funds for prostate cancer research…by growing some spectacular facial hair. The Movember movement, participants of which vowed not to shave for the entirety of the month of November, has become something of a phenomenon in 2010, and none have been more dedicated to the task than those affiliated with Burntwood School. Not only have the staff and sixth formers wholeheartedly dedicated time and effort into not shaving for a whole thirty days, they’ve even come to be known as the Burntwood Brush Brigade, presumably to develop a sense of camaraderie and togetherness, and to encourage other pupils and female teachers to sponsor them in this feat.
As it turns out, friends and family have, so far, dug deep to help raise their target to £1000, and those who felt left out also had the opportunity to wear fake ‘tashes for a day.
If you know of a another school local to the Magdalen estate that’s doing great things for charity, or indeed for any reason at all, then please do let us know, and we may able to mention them in our blog. We look forward to hearing from you!Google+
