Empty Spaces around the Magdalen Estate

empty spaces give musicians a place to performFor people with creative minds living in and around the Magdalen Estate, creating great arts events and experiences for members of the public to enjoy is a necessity. Finding places in which to host these events can be tricky, but in recent months, both Wandsworth and Lambeth borough councils have been working to make empty spaces more readily available for groups, companies and individuals wanting to find somewhere in which to create something great.
Recent schemes have included various sites that host pop-up shops, empty stalls and shop alcoves, in Brixton Village Market, for which companies could pitch and bid to gain a space and in which successful applicants could so as they pleased. Events that were hosted included mini art exhibitions, storytelling and musical performances, all put together by passionate local artists wanting to make their craft accessible to people without a traditional theatre space nearby- and all for free.
If you know of any great empty spaces around the Magdalen Estate, have already bagged yourself one, or perhaps just want to get in touch with other local artists with ideas and aspirations, please do give us a bell or drop us an email, and we can feature your story in our blog.
