For young people from the Magdalen Estate with a talent for creating masterpieces in the kitchen, 2011 may be the year that they get to shine- by entering CookIt! 2011, the children’s cookery competition established and run by The Guild of Food Writers and which is supported by Gold Top milk. Last year’s winner, 13-year old Anamay Viswanathan from Streatham, had the opportunity to visit the BBC Good Food Kitchens and be given pointers and tips in creating great dishes by food experts Valentine Warner and Stefan Gates, as she and the other finalists baked, fried, chopped and sautéed their little hearts out, with the hope of being crowned the winner. The victor of this year’s competition- who will have shown great imagination in creating am interesting and tasty two-course meal- will also have the opportunity, as Anamay did, to visit a real working dairy farm in Guernsey, receive cooking master classes, and partake in local culinary tours.
If you know of any young people who just happen to be a whizz with a frying pan, get them to check out the Guild of Food Writers site; it is here that details of the competition and an entry form can be found. You’ll have to be quick though, as the closing date for entries is the 28th April. Perhaps you- or someone else you know- from around the Magdalen Estate has already put themselves forward for this terrific opportunity; why not let us know about it, and we can give them a mention (and send our best good-luck-vibes their way).Google+
