Annual Open House for Local Artists

the open house weekend is a great way to explore the magdalen estateOne of the things we love the most about The Magdalen Estate area is the local talent that lays hidden within it, ready to be discovered. Even with the year just beginning, and the weather remaining chilly, we still have the annual Wandsworth Artists’ Open House weekend to look forward to, a chance for talented painters, photographers, etchers and sketchers to show off their work in the comfort of their own homes, situated across the London borough. The weekend, which takes place in July, not only allows art lovers to nose around and discover work in places that they may not have previous thought to look (and the chance to nab some free cups of tea and nibbles), but the creators themselves get a whole new audience in to view their work. Some of our favourites of 2010 included the oil, acrylic and enamel pictures of Julie Higgins, and the fairytale-inspired 3D models built by Madeleine Hunter. One thing’s for sure, and that’s that we can’t wait to see what’s in store for us in 2011.
Maybe you know of other local events or festivals that are taking place around The Magdalen Estate, and would like to share your wisdom with the people who’ll appreciate it the most. Perhaps you know of an artist who you think deserves a plug on our blog; whatever your thoughts, please do get in touch and let us in on them. We look forward to hearing from you!
